Tattoo - the Fashion accessory

Before thinking about designing your own Tattoo online - why are you doing it? It’s a fashion accessory, of course. The media is full of role models with tattoos from David Beckham to Amy Winehouse.  Who’d be seen without a tattoo? Well, some are hidden and only for the delectation of partners(!) but many are given full frontal exposure. From discreet to full artbody there are a wide range of options to choose from! For the kids there are plenty of temporary henna “tattoos”. Time for them to decide later if they want a permanent ink tattoo.

The range of images is enormous and diverse - from artistic ring armbands, celtic crosses, individual lettering, and signs of the zodiac such as virgo (always popular!). Or perhaps you are looking for something unique.

But do you know the origins of tattooing?

How did Tattooing Start?

The art of tattooing has been a Eurasian practice at least since Neolithic times with tribal origins. Tattooing has been practiced worldwide. The Ainu, the indigenous people of Japan, traditionally wore facial tattoos. Today one can find Berbers of Tamazgha and Maori of New Zealand with facial tattoos. Tattooing was widespread among Polynesian peoples and among certain tribal groups in the Philippines, Borneo, Mentawai Islands, Africa, North America, South America, Mesoamerica, Europe, Japan, Cambodia, New Zealand and Micronesia. Despite some taboos surrounding tattooing, the art continues to be popular in many parts of the world with many designs, techniques and ink. Tattoos are created by inserting coloured materials inside the skin’s surface. The first tattoos probably were created by accident! Perhaps somebody had a small skin wound, and rubbed it with soot and ashes from a fire. Once the wound had healed over, they saw that a coloured mark stayed permanently.
